2025 Mariposa Run

Mariposa Run, 2025

By Morris Garagian

About 2 ½ weeks before May 10, Morris thought it might be a good idea to fire up Goblin to make a run somewhere. With still a lot of greenery everywhere, it was decided to make a jaunt up to Mariposa to see some new members of the VBAC. With that in mind, it was determined to hit the backroads past Auberry to Oakhurst then hit CA-49 on to Mariposa. Up until this time, the temperatures in the valley had been great – 70s & low 80s. It was bound to continue on Saturday, right? No. As it turned out the heat came on and we got to experience a 99 degree day.

I’m sure that was a factor in the attendance for this run, but a few intrepid souls decided to join Morris & Goblin. Proceeding northbound on Academy Ave. Morris joined Richard (TR-3) and new member Karl w/ his beautiful 12 cylinder E-type for the short climb to Prather where we met Rich & Kitty (Sunbeam Alpine). From that point on we enjoyed the twists and turns of Powerhouse Road past Kirchoff Reservoir.

Stopping at the golden arches in Oakhurst, we met Alan & Victoria (MGB-GT) and had a few minutes of conversation before proceeding on to Oakhurst. At this point, Karl had to return to Fresno for a family commitment and Alan & Victoria had to return to Coarsegold. The TR-3 & MGA made the right turn to get on 49, but the Alpine had much trouble leaving the parking lot due to lots of traffic. (Note to self: figure out a better stopping location next time).

A nice drive continued on to Mariposa. Not very much traffic until we arrived at the outskirts of Mariposa at which time we saw the electronic signage stating: “Increased traffic into Yosemite National Park. Be prepared for delays”.

We soon were able to meet with Bernie (MG Midget) and Victor (MGB). Both have recently joined the VBAC and it was great to meet and talk about LBCs among other topics. After lunch, Bernie suggested we take the more scenic Triangle Road bypassing Mariposa and he guided us on this picturesque secondary road until we returned to CA-49.

From that point on, it was just lots of fun with Goblin running well and following Kitty back home. It was toasty, especially after leaving Rich in the high country, but no FTP, therefore, a great day!

Until next time: Safety Fast!
