Jon Brothers

Hello, I’m Jon Brothers and I currently serve as President of the Valley British Auto Club. In a literary sense, one may typically find me identifying as Simon Cooper.

I joined VBAC in 2010, after a long time, close friend encouraged me to come to one of the Club’s monthly dinner meetings. Owning a modern MINI Cooper S at the time, and having an affliction with vintage sports car racing (AND classic Minis), I decided I’d love to have one of these to call my own. My first Mini was a 1964 Austin Cooper. This car that had been built as a weekend race car, but was still suitable and licensed for street use. Realizing this car would require a bit more than I sensed was prudent, I renewed my search. A year later, by pure chance and great fortune, I found my 1970 Austin Mini Cooper S right here in the Fresno/Clovis area. Though unknown to me at the time, this special car carries quite a lengthy and well known history.

Since becoming a VBAC member, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many great people who share in the enthusiasm of preserving and driving some very fine British automobiles. I look forward to seeing us grow as a group, always encouraging member input and participation. The enhancement of our website will include showcasing our members and the cars they love, as well as recording and preserving over thirty years of VBAC History. I’ll always strive to carry on a tradition of dedicated leadership, following the footsteps of some great folks who shared an outstanding vision for our Club’s future.

Please consider joining us at our annual Clovis “Roundup” Car Show, held the last weekend in March, in Old Town Clovis. Our show is one of the first All British car shows of the year and is always quite well attended by owners and enthusiasts from throughout California. This outstanding venue provides a fantastic opportunity for our members and out of town participants to get out and enjoy their cars after a long Winter of hibernation.

Thank you and we look forward to meeting you soon. Jon.

Date You Joined VBAC: 2010

British Car(s) Owned: 1970 Austin Mini Cooper S MkII 2015 Jaguar XF 3.0 Portfolio

Anything Unique (or Special) About Your British Car(s): My 1970 Mini has quite a lengthy history. Originally imported by Kjell Qvale to San Francisco, this car is likely the last Cooper S MkII imported to the western United States. After nearly 40 years of BMW ownership, our 2015 Jaguar XF is the first Jag we’ve ever owned. Its sleek styling immediately caught Joanie’s eye (mine too!) and it’s likely the two will never part company.

Why You Chose It: Mini: Because of its unique looks and history. Jaguar: Its styling is way beyond cool.

Most Memorable Trip: Several trips and events come to mind, however my Mini earning a Second Place award at the Carmel “Concours On The Avenue” is by far the most memorable of all shows and awards.. The Tiffany Crystal will forever remain the most prestigious of all.

Additional Hobbies/Interests: A deep love and devotion to family and friends; a dedicated life of professional service to the public; a life long love for all things motorsports.
