The Valley Nature & Education Center

 

 

Ok! What the heck is this Valley Nature and Education Center thing all about anyway? Is this just a bunch of people trying to get everyone to run around in the forest naked and eat bark or what? Although it would be more fun if naked forest munching were the agenda, the center has a number of different purposes.

The Valley Nature & Education Center is designed to provide a unique nature experience in as urban setting. The center will promote family, individual and student uses that are geared to nature education.

Basically, the center will provide a setting for programs which address a number of local interests. Programs to teach kids how to fish, wildlife rehabilitation, nature trails, a public museum, public water quality education, varmint control for ranchers and farmers using owls, using senior citizens to mentor "at risk" youth using animals, using animals as part of a self-rehabilitation program for the emotionally disabled and many other programs.

The project has a number of partners;

  • The Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District
  • The Clovis Unified School District
  • California Department of Fish and Game
  • The Fresno Unified School District
  • The Central Unified School District
  • Fresno Wildlife
  • The Native Plant Society

The Center will be located on the East side of Temperance at the Sierra Avenue alignment and cover approximately 117 acres. Look! There goes a Jaguar "D" type! (Thought I would throw that in there because some of you are starting to fade on me.) Look, the Valley Nature & Education Center will be a facility without equal in the state of California for our kids and grandkids. No other wildlife preserve, nature park or botanical garden offers all the potential that this site will deliver. From nature trails to a fishing lake to a public museum, this site provides some nature activity for virtually every person. They will be bussing kids in from all over the valley to this place. But most importantly, it gives us a great opportunity to put on a British Car Show in a great venue and have some fun! - Thanks, Kurt Lanse
