South Valley Run to Three Rivers
A couple months back we set up a run for our south valley members. We met up at a Starbucks in Visalia on a pleasant Saturday morning. As usual I was the first one there (had to make sure I got my triple venti mocha, and my wife got her venti nonfat iced chai with 8 pumps). As we sat there enjoying the coolness of the morning, we were pleased to see the British cars roll in. I believe we ended up with 3 MG’s, 3 Triumphs, a Healey, and a Jag. (Click photo for more pics)
We left Visalia and headed through some back streets and roads to the town of Exeter. Exeter is a small town known for its many murals. After a slow drive through town we went up Rocky Hill Road. This road is famous to the locals for biking, running and walkers. So slowly we headed up, and at the top is a great view of the farmland that looks like a patchwork quilt. Then down and around the hill we went before heading up the 198 towards Three Rivers.
Our next stop was at the Visitors Center at Lake Kaweah. As we drove through all the boats and trailers getting ready to launch we heard the comments, “check these out”, “nice car”, “what is that?”. We got out and stretched our legs, visited the center, checked out the lake, took some pics and of course checked out our own cars. Then we were off again.
We headed up the road a few more miles enjoying the view of the lake, still cool at this point. We stopped next at a pizza joint. We picked out a few big tables that overlooked the local Golf course. We enjoyed a beverage or two, had some good pizza and sandwiches, talked and talked. Had a few people come and ask if those were our cars, and you know “I used to have one of those”, “I got one sitting in the barn I need to work on”, etc.
Well as we know oh so well, that time of year it starts to get hot, so to make sure we had some coolness before going back down to the valley, we went up a few more miles to a local Ice Cream and Candy place. My wife and I have been there many times so we knew exactly what we were getting. Everybody else had a tough decision to make. Again we had several people come up and check out our cars, Monica even gave one girl a short ride in her TR7 Spider. After we finished our ice cream we started down the hill to the valley before it got too hot.
I would like to thank everyone who showed up for this run. I think we had a good time.
