Looks like a bear to meClick on the monster for more photos of the run….

The Valley British Auto Clubs July run was to the new Fossil Discovery Center of Madera County. The museum displays fossils found at the Fairmead County Land Fill located across the street. Fossils were first found there in 1993 when workers spotted some unusual coloration in the soil. It turned out to be a complete fossil of a Colombian Mammoth Tusk from an animal that roamed the valley floor 500,000 years ago. Other animal fossils found include the Saber- Toothed Cat, Dier Wolf, Short Faced Bear, Camels and Horses. 15,000 large animal fossils have been found so far in the land fill.

The starting point for the drive was at British Steel Restorations at 9:00 am. We strapped in to our own endangered species and headed out the Highway to Ave 12. Picked up a Jaguar XK 120 and continued down to Ave 19 ½. It was a nice cool morning for the middle of July.

The TR3 had Betty looking for her blanket.

We arrived at the Discovery center all in one piece and paid the small fee to get in. This is cheap for the center is very new and quite nice. We watched a short movie and then started our tour. Looking back at how our valley was 750,000 years ago one can only think what the future has in store. 700,000 yrs from now will someone or something dig up a TR7 and say.

‘What were they Thinking?” One only knows. ;-)
